I might be wrong, but I think it was Flaubert who claimed to be unable to write unless he'd masturbated three times first.
Sort of the opposite of Balzac I suppose.

No. From the Balls. The man gots them. Which is interesting because I remember reading about somewhere that Flaubert was obsessed with idea of castrating himself. Probably akin to what you referencing earlier. Yet again, I can relate to where he's coming from. And, yes, that would be France.
